WEFTEC Sessions, Exhibits Tackle Stormwater

New Pavilion to Feature Related Products and Services

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) will feature an extensive lineup of stormwater programming and dedicated exhibit space at WEFTEC 2012, WEF’s 85^th Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference this fall in New Orleans, La.

Attendees may choose from more than one dozen workshops and sessions featuring 97 presentations on stormwater management, green infrastructure and wet weather. Topics covered range from stormwater system analysis and design to rainwater harvesting.

On Monday, the session “Key Emerging Stormwater Issues: Skating Ahead of the Puck” will examine several emerging areas of stormwater management and cover the potential impacts on both the practice and the practitioner. Results from the WEF inaugural Stormwater Symposium will be featured and summarized.

Representatives from several large U.S. cities will present their own experiences with municipal green infrastructure projects in Tuesday’s session “Big Cities Turn Stormwater Green”. Cities represented include Philadelphia, Orlando, Austin and Detroit. James Garin, director of engineering for the New York Department of Environmental Protection, will discuss design and maintenance of the Bluebelt, a large-scale watershed-level best management practices program that uses waterways and wetlands to naturally manage stormwater over a 16,000-acre region of Staten Island, N.Y.

For the first time, the WEFTEC exhibit hall will feature the Stormwater Pavilion—10,000 square feet of exhibit space dedicated to related treatment products and services. 

"We have long had stormwater manufacturers exhibit at WEFTEC, but this is the first time they are coming together to create a hub of stormwater products and innovation,” said Seth Brown, WEF’s stormwater program and policy manager. “The pavilion creates a great complement to the technical programming and builds momentum for this important water quality issue.”

In addition to the pavilion, technical experts from participating companies will share the latest stormwater technologies—from CSO treatment and nutrient removal to UV disinfection of stormwater runoff—during Wednesday afternoon’s Exhibitor Showcase.
