The new TransPort PT878 ultrasonic flowmeter provides a variety of features, including a large liquid crystal display with electroluminescent backlight. One to four parameters can be displayed in split screens at one time. The unit has multiple language support, allowing users to view information in their native language. Drop down menus and soft keys make programming simple.

The unit is designed for rugged industrial work and is submersible to IP67. A rubber boot with a built-in stand protects and secures the electronics. An adjustable hand strap makes the lightweight package easy to carry with just one hand. It can data log over 100,000 data points and then download the data via infrared communications port to a PC. PanaView communications software is available to facilitate managing data collection and retrieval.

A complete system includes the batter-operated and rechargeable PT878 electronics, a set of two ultrasonic transducers, a clamping fixture, and transducer cables that fit into a carrying case the size of a briefcase. Optional equipment includes a thickness gauge for determining pipe-wall thickness. It is capable of flow measurement in applications with 400:1 turndown, in pipes ranging from 0.5 in. to 300 in., and at temperatures up to 500°F.
