Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced the new Thermo Scientific® Arke™ SO3 System, designed to help plants control SO3 levels through continuously monitoring. The Arke SO3 System is ideal for users looking to minimize operational costs or improve efficiencies in industrial processes. Continuous monitoring of SO3 offers many benefits, including maximizing the efficiency of Activated Carbon Injection (ACI) systems for mercury capture, minimizing dry sorbent usage, managing the occurrence of “blue plume” and limiting corrosion in plant equipment.

The Arke SO3 System, with built-in SO3 generator, uses an advanced Quantum Cascade (QC) laser platform to provide high sensitivity, optimum selectivity and a continuous, direct measurement of SO3 within tough industrial-plant processes. The system is equipped with advanced data storage and analysis capabilities and can be easily integrated into a plant’s distributed control system or used as a stand-alone system. The system is designed to operate in any location within a plant process, under harsh operating environments upstream or downstream of pollution control devices or in the stack.

“The Arke SO3 system is ideal for monitoring and helping plants to control SO3 levels within their process. It will ultimately help operators make cost-effective decisions and optimize their plant’s performance,” said Jeff Socha, Air Quality Lead Scientist, Thermo Fisher Scientific.
