The Babcock & Wilcox Company Signs License Agreement For Scrubber Technology Sales
"B&W has a long-standing reputation in the power industry for its state-of-the-art pollution control equipment, and in fact commands a leading worldwide market share for WFGD systems," said John Black, director of Business Development at B&W. "While B&W's scrubber systems are in operation in power plants throughout the world - with 54,000 MW installed or currently in the design and construction phase worldwide - the EU presents a largely untapped market for our technology."
The EU comprises the third-largest market for the world's pollution control equipment, and is expected to need more scrubber equipment over the next decade to comply with the Large Combustion Plant Directive which sets new limits for the emissions of pollutants from power plants. Likewise, Russia and Turkey are growing economies that will require WFGD systems in the future.
B&W's advanced WFGD systems operate by mixing a limestone slurry (reagent) with flue gas generated from the combustion of fossil fuel in large steam generators that are used for electric generation and other industrial purposes. B&W's WFGD system features include B&W's uniquely designed absorber module and B&W's patented flue gas distribution tray, which in combination are capable of achieving greater than 98 percent SO2 removal from plant emissions.
