Tate & Lyle Strengthens Climate Ambition With Updated Science-Based Targets To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Updated targets reflect Tate & Lyle’s expanded footprint following the acquisition of CP Kelco in 2024 and its commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient food system.

Tate & Lyle PLC (Tate & Lyle), a global leader in ingredient solutions for healthier food and beverages, today announced updated science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) across its operations and supply chain. The new targets, which have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, apply to Tate & Lyle’s expanded global footprint and supply chain following its acquisition of CP Kelco in November 2024.

Tate & Lyle has committed to the following SBTi-validated science-based targets:
Energy and Industrial

  • Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 63% by the year ended 31 March 2036 from a base year ended 31 March 20221.
  • Reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 63% within the same timeframe.

Forests, Land and Agriculture (FLAG)

  • Reduce absolute Scope 3 FLAG emissions by 43% within the same timeframe2.
  • No deforestation across our primary deforestation-linked commodities, with a target date of
  • 31 December 2027.

These targets replace Tate & Lyle’s previously SBTi-validated science-based GHG emissions targets.

In addition to updated science-based GHG emissions targets, Tate & Lyle remains committed to delivering on its other sustainability targets, as follows:

  • 100% of purchased electricity for our operations to come from renewable sources by 2030
  • 100% of waste to be beneficially used by 2030
  • Reduce water use intensity by 15% by 20343

Maintain sustainable acreage equivalent to the volume of corn purchased each year.
