Tarrant Manufacturing Company, Inc. was incorporated in 1910 in Saratoga Springs, New York. The company started as a minor business of Tarrant & Company which was founded in 1883 and operated as a heating and plumbing contracting business. In an age of horseless carriages and new road building, the company produced road maintenance equipment, and developed and patented sheet metal asphalt pouring pots and melting kettles. Other early products of the firm included street cleaning can carriers, asphalt sprayers and agricultural dryers.

In 1946, as the highway maintenance market evolved, the company developed and patented the first effective salt spreader, the TARCO® SCOTCHMAN. A forerunner for material spreader designs, this product and other litter and leaf collecting equipment were sold to towns and cities for many years.

Still operated today in its fourth generation as a family business, Tarrant Manufacturing Company, Inc., continues to produce quality highway maintenance equipment. A full line of salt and sand spreaders, vacuum leaf loaders, and catch basin cleaners is sold under the TARCO® name by authorized equipment dealers throughout the United States and Canada.
