The disinfection chamber in the SWS Model TH-1C contains eighteen five foot long ultraviolet lamps running the length of the chamber. Lamps are individually protected in teflon coated quartz sleeves. The temperature inside the sleeves is maintained within the optimum range. Three rows of stator blades, each arranged in a helical pattern, are attached to the inner wall of the chamber and establish the flow pattern within the chamber.

Water enters the system and passes a flow switch. Advanced detectors mounted on the outer wall of the irradiation chamber measure the intensity of the 253.7nm signal received through the water. A microprocessor monitors the operation of key components and is interfaced to the control panel where lamp drives, switching contacts and safety circuits are located. From the intensity signals, the microprocessor computes and continuously displays actual dose.

The system is skid mounted on a 316L stainless steel frame.

The unique turbulator flow pattern ensures that all contaminants in the water passing through the system are brought repeatedly onto the sleeves surrounding the eighteen individual lamps, ensuring that multiple doses are delivered. A critical aspect of the disinfection of primary or secondary sewage effluents is entrapment of microorganisms and viruses in the suspended solids. Vigorous turbulence in the chamber and the sharp edged stator blades break down suspended solids, enhancing the disinfection efficiency.

Installations are sized according to existing flow rate and quality of the water or effluent to be treated. Units can be manifolded to meet increased flow rates or variable quality requirements.
