Sinopec Builds China's First Carbon Neutral Gas Station

Changzhou / PRNewswire / - Built by the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (HKG: 0386, “Sinopec”), the Jiaze gas station located in Changzhou , Jiangsu Province , is now the first station -China's service to achieve carbon neutrality, as its distributed photovoltaic power generation project (the “Project”) has recently officially entered into operation.

Comprehensively assessed by the authorities, the project can offset the station's electricity consumption and carbon emissions, making it a historic achievement of great importance in the industry.

The Jiaze gas station project adopts the model of "self-generation for self-use with surplus electricity entering the grid", thus enabling the establishment of an uninterrupted flow switch with the state network. It uses photovoltaic power generation instead of coal-fired power generation and supplies excess power to the external grid while meeting the station's power needs.

The annual electricity production of the project is estimated to be 127,000 to 147,000 kWh, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions from 91.2 to 105.6 tonnes. In 2020, the station's electricity consumption was 99,000 kWh. According to the calculation based on the theoretical 25-year life cycle of the photovoltaic power plant, and compared to traditional thermal energy projects, emissions of 3,800 tons of carbon dioxide, 116 tons of sulfur dioxide and 56 tons of nitrogen oxides can be reduced throughout the life cycle.

In addition, Jiaze gas station has implemented a series of measures to reduce carbon emissions, including oil vapor recovery and wastewater recovery and treatment, to promote construction and implementation. in place of carbon neutral service stations.

As China prepares to meet its goal of capping carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, Sinopec will spare no effort to achieve the goal of net zero emissions, focusing on vision of building a world-class clean energy chemicals company, accelerating energy transformation and industrial upgrading, and actively building photovoltaic power plants. At present, Sinopec has established 160 photovoltaic power plants in Hainan , Guangdong , Guangxi , Yunnan provinces and more.

Over the next five years, Sinopec will develop 7,000 photovoltaic power plants and Sinopec Jiangsu Oilfield Company plans to build 900 carbon neutral service stations. Sinopec aims to make the company's business card “green and clean” through special models such as setting up carbon-neutral service stations and planting carbon-neutral forests.

Going forward, Sinopec will accelerate the creation of an integrated energy service provider for “oil, gas, hydrogen, electric and non-oil services,” thereby promoting clean fossil energy, non-energy. large-scale fossil fuel and low-carbon production processes to ensure that a cap on carbon emissions is reached by 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Thus, these actions will renew contributions in response to global climate change as a responsible business.
