Saipem Awarded Carbon Capture Contract For Ren-Gas' Tampere E-Methane Project In Finland For Its Bluenzyme 200 Solution

Saipem has been awarded by Ren-Gas a contract for the Engineering, Procurement and Fabrication (EPF) of its Bluenzyme 200 solution, for the carbon capture unit for the Tampere Power-to-Gas project in Finland.

Under the contract, Saipem will deliver the first full scale carbon capture unit based on its proprietary CO₂ Solutions technology by Saipem and industrialized Bluenzyme 200 solution. The scope includes engineering, procurement and fabrication activities, as well as advisory services during installation, commissioning, start-up and performance testing.

The carbon capture unit will be integrated into Ren-Gas’ e-methane production facility in Tampere, which is expected to produce approximately 200 GWh per year of renewable synthetic fuel, or e-methane. The fuel will be distributed through existing gas infrastructure for heavy-duty road transport in Germany. The contract will become effective upon Ren-Gas’ final investment decision (FID) for the Tampere e-methane project.

The contract builds on Ren-Gas’ previous selection of Saipem’s proprietary Bluenzyme technology for the project’s post-combustion carbon capture unit, announced in December 2024, and further advances the deployment of innovative carbon capture technologies integrated with Power-to-X solutions. The project supports the development of a low-carbon energy ecosystem in Northern Europe.

This award represents a crucial milestone for the technology and further strengthens Saipem’s commitment to provide products and solutions enabling industrial decarbonization and supporting the energy transition.
