Rhodia acquires U.S. waste treatment business

Rhodia, the specialty chemical giant headquartered in Paris, France announced that it has acquired, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Rhodia Eco Services, all of the operating assets of Heat Energy Advanced Technology, Inc. (HEAT), based in Dallas, TX.

With sales of $10 million, HEAT has been a major provider in the Southwest United States of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management services to industrial, institutional and governmental customers. Its Dallas facility was the first treatment, storage and disposal (TSD) facility in Texas to receive a permit, in 1984, from the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission to treat hazardous waste for solvent recycling and waste disposal.

This acquisition expands Rhodia's waste treatment services provided in the U.S. through Rhodia Eco Services North America, to include recycling, the blending of hazardous materials to create fuels, and the incineration of chemical laboratory materials.

Rhodia Eco Services North America already operates three hazardous waste treatment facilities in Baton Rouge, LA; Hammond, IN; and Houston, TX. These facilities utilize sulfuric acid regeneration technology to thermally treat and dispose of hazardous waste in an environmentally sound manner.

"Rhodia is committed to expanding its North American industrial waste treatment business," said Randy Gress, Vice President & General Manager of Rhodia Eco Services North America. "This acquisition strengthens our business in the U.S. and broadens our capabilities in waste treatment services with a specific focus on chemical manufacturers."
