Renewable Choice Energy To Provide Carbon Offsets To Smart Growth Conference

Leading national firm to help reduce event’s carbon footprint.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) - Renewable Choice Energy (http://www.renewablechoice.com) announced today that the firm will provide carbon offsets to the New Partners Smart Growth (NPSG) Conference in Denver, February 13-15, 2014 in an effort to reduce the event’s carbon footprint. Renewable Choice was selected for the second year in a row by conference sustainability advisor HDR.

The conference is sponsored by the Local Government Commission (LGC), a nonprofit organization fostering innovation in environmental sustainability, economic prosperity, and social equity. In its 13th year, the annual event will feature speakers on a variety of related topics, including land preservation, smart growth, transportation, energy independence, and environmental justice.

Global consulting firm HDR has been the conference sustainability advisor for several years and facilitated Renewable Choice’s involvement. As the conference advisor, HDR is responsible for estimating the expected greenhouse gas emissions from the event and coordinating the offset program.

“We are excited to partner with Renewable Choice on the NPSG conference for a second year. This is another example of our strong collaboration on many initiatives,” said Jeannie Renne-Malone, Director of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Management for HDR.

Since 2001, Renewable Choice has been providing green power and carbon offsets to companies around the world, including more than 50 of the Fortune 500 and 4,000 LEED® certified green building projects. Consistently ranked among the top green power providers in North America, Renewable Choice is also a certified ‘Best for the Environment’ B Corporation.

The offsets provided to the Smart Growth event by Renewable Choice will be sourced from Michigan’s Green Meadow Dairy Farm. The farm, a methane sequestration dairy located in Elsie, Michigan, uses anaerobic digestion technology to utilize the biomethane generated from cattle manure. The state-of-the-art facility uses the methane to generate renewable electricity and then flares the residual gas to keep it from entering the atmosphere. This innovative process reduces the farm’s release of methane, a highly destructive and short-living GHG.

Event participants will have the opportunity to voluntarily purchase the offsets to neutralize their travel to and from the event. LGC will match all offsets purchased in this way. In 2012, LGC was able to offset nearly 42% of the conference’s carbon footprint.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with the LGC and HDR to provide carbon offsets for the NPSG conference,” said Aran Rice, VP of Sales for Renewable Choice. “Increasingly, organizations are looking for affordable and credible ways to make a difference on environmental impact, and carbon offsets are a progressive choice. We’re pleased to help reduce the carbon impact of the NPSG conference and hope that other events will follow their example.”
