Jefferson Smurfit's facility in Cincinnati, Ohio produces high quality printing for use on consumer product labels. They are also one of the most environmentally friendly companies in their business. The recent addition of a new state-of-the-art color printing press and upgrade of the older presses to meet EPA emission standards resulted in the production of higher amounts of volatile organic compounds, or VOC's, than their current system could handle. The 1990 Clean Air Act sets limits on the amount of uncontrolled air polluting emissions from industrial processes. Environmental considerations are a priority with Jefferson Smurfit and after careful research Trinity's DUAL-BED Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) was chosen to replace the existing unit.

Trinity Contractors, Inc. and <%=company%> designed the unit based on the customer's individual needs. The 67,000 ACFM RTO was manufactured in Trinity's Grand Prairie facility, shipped by truck to Cincinnati and erected by Trinity personnel. After three days of testing, VOC's were introduced. Jefferson Smurfit's personnel were trained and the unit was turned over to the owner. An internal modem allows technicians to continuously monitor the unit 24 hours a day.

Completed in June, 1997, this unit is the largest single module DUAL-BED RTO in operation. It is capable of 99% destruction of all VOC's with virtually no generation of nitric oxide. Trinity's RTO recovers up to 95% of the heat generated in the oxidation process making the system an energy efficient solution for this environmentally conscience company. This $750,000 project recently received the "Excellence in Construction" award from North Texas Associated Builders and contractors and an Award of Merit from Associated Builders and Contractors national competition.
