Qafac To Unveil Carbon Dioxide Recovery Plant

Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd (Qafac) will officially announce the launch of one of their greatest innovations to date, the state-of-the-art Carbon Dioxide Recovery Plant, the company said in a statement yesterday.

Built to improve the environmental footprint of the plant, the facility will also help increase methanol production, it said.

“By 2050, the global population is expected to exceed 9 billion. As a result, we will face an even bigger increase to environmentally damaging pollutants in the atmosphere,” said Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari, CEO of Qafac.

“In an effort to address these concerns today, we are doing everything possible to implement technology that will allow us to provide durable and environmentally sustainable solutions. Tomorrow, with the support of members of the energy sector specifically, H E, Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry of the State of Qatar, we are proud to launch our Carbon Dioxide Recovery Plant,” he said.

“This is a big step forward, that we hope demonstrates Qafac’s strong desire to play a front line role as an environmentally conscious company,” Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari added.

The Carbon Dioxide Recovery Plant will recover 500 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions a day from its methanol reformer stack and reinject it into the existing methanol process.

Along with enhancing the production capacity, this process will be the equivalent to absorbing the CO2 taken in by 4,200,000 trees in 10 years time.

In honour of the inauguration, Qafac will host an event tomorrow in Katara Village. It will take place at 7:30 am and will include key members of the energy sector.
