Moving Bed System
Purac Engineering, Inc.'s 4-page brochure describes how the Kaldnes Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor System (MBBR) handles loads of 50 kg COD/m3d and occupies 20% of the floor space.
This technology is based on a biofilm created on the surface of a moving bed of polyethylene media. Having a large surface area and density slightly less than that of water, these buoyant media are suspended and in constant motion provided by aeration in an aerobic environment and mixers in an anoxic environment. The continuous movement provides contact with the influent wastewater and also prevents system clogging. Besides reducing COD and BOD loads, the Kaldnes MBBR system can also be used for nitrification and denitrification of industrial wastewater.
