New York, NY — The MEGTEC Systems unit of Sequa Corporation has acquired certain assets of Calgon Carbon Corporation that are expected to enhance its presence in printing and other process markets and add important solvent recovery competencies to its technology portfolio. Terms of the transaction are not available.

The acquired assets include: the solvent recovery and distillation operations of Vara Technologies (Vero Beach, Florida), and both Barnebey Sutcliffe (Columbus, Ohio) and Sutcliffe Speakman (UK). These operations are global leaders in solvent recovery, distillation and VOC abatement systems. Additional technology acquired includes bio-reactor systems.

With annual sales of approximately $14 million generated principally in the United States, the operations added through this purchase represent a niche-filling opportunity for De Pere, Wisconsin-based MEGTEC Systems, which recorded 2005 global sales of $217.3 million.

Commenting on the transaction, Mohit Uberoi, president of MEGTEC Systems, said, "This acquisition adds substantially to our presence in the gravure printing and chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries, and it brings a well established and highly regarded line of equipment under the MEGTEC umbrella. Importantly, the technologies resident at the acquired operations add a new facet to our capabilities in pollution control systems. We can now offer customers not only emission abatement but also solvent recovery."
