By The Daily Record
LANHAM, Md., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacqueline W. Sales, president and owner of HAZMED, Inc., an environmental engineering and information technology consulting firm, was recently named one of "Maryland's Top 100 Women" for 1999 by The Daily Record. The Baltimore-based Maryland business daily has compiled this list since 1996 to recognize the professional and volunteer accomplishments of women who live or work in Maryland.
A panel of distinguished business and community leaders served as the judges for selecting this year's honorees. The 100 winners were selected from a field of nearly 300 nominees evaluated for not only displaying a history of significant and worthwhile accomplishment throughout their careers and exercising leadership in their professional fields, but also for serving as mentors to other women. The women honored were also recognized for having contributed significant time and effort to volunteerism and to exercising leadership within their communities.
Ms. Sales founded HAZMED in 1988 after completing 10 years of federal service in the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response in various professional and managerial positions including Environmental Engineer, Section Chief, and Branch Chief. She was also employed at the Department of Energy as Chief of the RCRA/CERCLA Unit in the Office of Environmental Guidance. Over its 10-year history, HAZMED has grown to include a staff of more than 100 professionals and support personnel and in 1998, its revenues were $8.7 million. In addition to its headquarters in Lanham, MD, HAZMED has field and project offices in Las Vegas, NV; Fort Campbell, KY; Rock Island Arsenal, IL; Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Burlington, VT; St. Louis, MO; Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; and Germantown, MD.
The growth of HAZMED's information technology services capabilities is reflected in its establishment of Cypress Information Technology Division. The Cypress professionals specialize in understanding clients' business needs, and then developing and implementing cost-effective information technology systems to meet those needs.
"I am very honored to have been included in such a distinguished group of women," Ms. Sales said. "Throughout my career, I have always believed that success is achieved through quality performance and customer satisfaction. I am convinced that these attributes are the cornerstones of HAZMED's growth -- both in size and technical capabilities."
Ms. Sales and the other honorees will be recognized at a reception on
Monday, March 22, 1999 at 5 p.m. in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall
in Baltimore.
