INEOS Nitriles Launch Invireo TM Bio-Based Acrylonitrile To Deliver 90% Reduction Of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- InvireoTM products have been fully certified according to the industry-leading standards of ISCC Plus and RSB.
- InvireoTM delivers a 90% lower carbon footprint compared to conventionally produced acrylonitrile.
- Acrylonitrile is an essential raw material to produce wind turbines for green electricity and to make cars, planes and trains lighter and stronger.
- Hans Casier, CEO INEOS Nitriles: “Put simply, InvireoTM is a green feedstock that reduces the carbon footprint of the end product by more than 90%!”
INEOS Nitriles has today launched its first bio-attributed product line for Acrylonitrile. The new product is to be sold under the InvireoTM brand. InvireoTM represents innovation in the global acrylonitrile market and offers a more climate-friendly and sustainable alternative to existing acrylonitrile.
Manufactured at INEOS Nitriles’ site in Cologne Germany, InvireoTM is made using bio-attributed propylene, which enables the replacement of fossil fuel resources.
INEOS Nitriles’ certification by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC Plus) and Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) allows the use of bio, bio-circular and circular feedstock into the supply chain according to a mass balance approach.
Mass balance is an essential tool used to reduce the reliance on fossil fuel materials as feedstock across a wide range of industries. In practice, it allows the mixing of renewable and recycled materials with traditional feedstock to create a lower-carbon product. It is recognized as a necessary step in arriving at a fully circular economy.
InvireoTM Products are certified by ISCC Plus and RSB as delivering a 100% substitution of fossil-based propylene feedstock in its production system, enabling a lower carbon footprint compared to conventionally produced products.
Acrylonitrile is essential to, and successfully used in, a variety of industrial applications such as wind turbines, automotive, aerospace, textile, chemicals for special applications and sporting goods. These applications are essential to our everyday life and it is important that we continue to serve society’s needs, whilst continually reducing carbon emissions.
Hans Casier, CEO at INEOS Nitriles said, “Through our sustainability programme we have developed this new, bio-based product line. InvireoTM supports our customers with drop-in products that meet their rigorous quality and performance requirements. At the same time, they move the industry closer towards a lower-carbon economy for acrylonitrile without compromising the unique product qualities.”
InvireoTM is available to the market from June 2023. Follow https://www.invireo.com for more information.
Alice Dibben, Sustainability Manager for INEOS Nitriles said, “InvireoTM is a clear example of our ongoing commitment to accelerate progress towards a lower carbon future. It is a major step forward in INEOS’ journey to sustainability and demonstrates our dedication to developing innovative solutions that address our customers and society’s needs.
