Halogenated Hydrocarbon Catalysts

Halogenated hydrocarbons deactivate most conventional catalysts. Prototech's PRO*HHC catalysts remain active.

Standard catalysts deactivate when the halogen containing compounds attach the washcoat components (typically alumina). Prototech's specially formulated washcoat and supports prevent halogen attack and remain stable. Plus, the PRO*HHC series destroys non-chlorinated aromatic and aliphatic compounds.

Most commonly found in the pharmaceutical industry and also in soil remediation (soil vapor extraction SVE) situations, HHC catalysts also prove effective in the chemical and semiconductor industries.

Prevents Elemental Chlorine

Because of its acid selectivity, HHC catalysts prevent formation of elemental halide gases. Using available moisture in the emission stream, the catalyst strips the halides from the organic compound to form an acid gas. The carbon components oxidize and become carbon dioxide and water. Traditinal alkaline wet scrubbing processes then neutralize the acid gas.

Destroys Dioxins

In the process of controlling air pollution that contains chlorinated hydrocarbons, dioxins sometimes form. Prototech's PRO*HHC series destroys dioxins, eliminating concern over these dioxins forming in the process.
