Green Machine converting waste-heat to electrical power

The ‘Green Machine' family of scalable power systems uses low-grade waste energy to produce environmentally green electricity. By combining traditional components with patented, cutting-edge technology, green energy solutions are created with a subsidy-free payback period of three years or less. Run in a series, Green Machine systems can produce megawatts of power with maximum uptime and minimum maintenance.

Waste Heat Generator

As a Waste Heat Generator (WHG), the Green Machine captures waste heat (BTUs) from almost any geothermal or industrial source to generate fuel-free, emission-free electricity. Built on a skid, it's both modular and mobile, meaning it's easy to transport and install as a single unit or in a series. Automated control systems permit unattended operation resulting in low operation and maintenance costs.

A ‘Green Machine', installed at Southern Methodist University in 2008, is the world's first commercially viable WHG, using patented heat and pressure recovery technology that requires minimal heat (200 degrees F liquid) and is low cost, fuel-free and emissions-free. The system has exceeded expectations, reaching output well beyond its 50kW rating.

Gas Pressure Reduction Generator

The ‘Green Machine' was adapted to the needs of the oil and gas industry, as a Gas Pressure Reduction Generator (GPRG ) to utilize the energy contained in the pressure drop of any gas to produce non-combustible, fuel-free, emission-free electricity. Built on a skid, it's both modular and mobile, meaning it's easy to transport and install. Automated control systems permit unattended operation resulting in low operation and maintenance costs.

Green Machine Technology

Each Green Machine combines traditional components with patented, cutting-edge technology to create electricity from waste heat. Green Machine power systems use a closed-loop organic Rankine cycle (ORC) to create pressure by boiling EPA-approved chemical working-fluids into a gas. The gas expands in a ‘one way' system with sufficient energy to turn a patented Twin Screw Expander, which drives a generator to ultimately put out electricity.

Historically, ORCs incorporating turbo-expanders have not been commercially viable in sizes less than 1MW. By replacing turbo-expanders with Green Machine's patented, robust, low-cost Twin Screw Expander, users benefit from short payback on systems that provide unattended operation and negligible maintenance.

Organic Rankin Cycle (ORC) Principle

Green Machine Technology:

  • Lowest heat requirement in the industry: 200º F
  • Flexible and scalable from 25kW-1MW
  • One third the cost of turbine generators
  • Lowest operation and maintenance requirements in the industry
  • Non-combustion process
  • Zero toxic byproducts
  • Zero emissions
  • Zero fossil fuel requirements
  • Modular and mobile
  • Carbon neutral

Green Machine's Twin Screw Expander

The patented Twin Screw Expander provides the ideal solution in the arena of small-scale waste heat generation. The Twin Screw Expander:

  • Costs 10 percent of comparable turbo expanders.
  • Runs at roughly 1/10 the rotational speed of turbo expanders.
  • Performs with less friction and greater lobe strength than any other twin screw rotor profile.
  • Operates free of expensive gear boxes and/or electronics needed for high speed turbine operation.
  • Enhances the cycle by admitting wet vapor to the closed loop system (impossible with turbines), enabling Green Machine's patented process lubrication system which eliminates the need for traditional oil pump, tank, lines and filter.
  • Is ‘bullet proof', built to perform in caustic environments that severely damage high-speed turbines and turbo expanders
