The LasIR is a field-portable instrument that can provide real-time measurements of selected gases, and is suitable for perimeter, long-path, point source, stack, vehicle exhaust and ambient monitoring. The product measures the adsorption of infrared radiation from a low-powered diode laser similar to those used in CD players and laser printers.

The measurement is said to be completely free from interference from other gases and is automatically calibrated. Three versions of the instrument are offered: LasIR-R for long path remote sensing, LasIR-P for point source monitoring, and LasIR-S for stack monitoring and process control.
