The new TurboMatrix family of Thermal Desorbers from PerkinElmer Instruments reduces laboratories' operating costs
TurboMatrix Samplers Offer Unique Two-Stage Desorption Process

The new TurboMatrix family of Thermal Desorbers from PerkinElmer Instruments reduces laboratories' operating costs of analysis by offering a flexible, easy-to-use system that produces accurate, reproducible results for the full range of sample handling requirements. A graphical user interface with touch-screen provides easy access to important information, including visual displays of the thermal desorbers' operation, the setpoints, and the current conditions of temperature and pressures. For environmental analysis, product development, quality control, and troubleshooting out-of-specification products, the TurboMatrix Thermal Desorbers eliminate the need for manual sample preparation and can interface with different manufacturers' gas chromatographs.

The TurboMatrix Thermal Desorbers use a unique, two-stage process to desorb analytes from the sample tube and refocus them onto a narrow-bore cold trap for direct transfer to the GC column. This updated technology lowers operating costs by eliminating the use of expensive liquid cryogen, and also offers enhanced chromatography and narrower peak widths, due to a 40°C/second trap heating rate. Other advantages of this thermal desorption technique include a wider boiling range analysis and improved water management.

For increased efficiency, the TurboMatrix Thermal Desorbers allow direct desorption of the sample within the unit. Thus, no solvent is required for sample analysis. By avoiding dilution through solvent extraction, sampler sensitivity is improved by a factor of 1000.

The TurboMatrix TD family offers users significant flexibility with a built-in touch screen that displays information in a number of different languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Japanese. Each unit is also capable of interfacing with any gas chromatograph, regardless of the manufacturer.

Analysis-improving accessories, such as on-line air sampling, dry purging, or liquid nitrogen cold trap cooling, make for an easily upgradeable system that will not only fulfill the demands of today's samples, but meet the challenges of tomorrow's analyses as well. The TurboMatrix Thermal Desorption family includes a single sample system and an automated version accommodating up to 50 samples.
