FLEXIPAC and GEMPAK packing elements make use of a constant configuration of geometrically arranged, corrugated sheets throughout a tower
Koch-Glitsch Mass Transfer Technologyd GEMPAK high-performance packing elements make use of a constant configuration of geometrically arranged, corrugated sheets throughout a tower. The geometric design combined with perforations and surface texturing results in intimate mixing and radial distribution of liquid and gas streams. This structure provides high capacity, high efficiency and low pressure drop. The patented products feature structured packings that operate over a range of liquid and gas rates. This unit may be fabricated in a variety of metals, plastics and ceramic.

The wire gauze structured packings are fabricated from a woven wire fabric material that is completely self-wetting. The wire diameter and mesh opening dimensions have been engineered to maximize capillary forces, enhancing the self-wetting characteristic. Pre-flooding is not required to attain the wetted condition. The product can be used in applications where low pressure drop is important and liquid rates are low (as low as 0.1 gpm/ft2), required HETP is generally in the five to eight in. range, regardless of column diameter. Pressure drop can be as low as 0.2 mm Hg per theoretical stage.
