Cheer Pack North America's Continued Commitment To Produce Sustainable Flexible Packaging That Has A Minimal Impact On The Environment

Cheer Pack N.A.’s Stand-Up Pouches Create Between 75 and 93 Percent Less Greenhouse Gas Emissions Compared to Other Packaging Types

West Bridgewater, MA - Cheer Pack North America is committed to decreasing its carbon footprint by making eco-friendly sustainable flexible packaging that is produced and distributed using environmentally-conscious methods. The company’s commitment to sustainability is driven by many principles, including the fact that Cheer Pack N.A.’s stand-up pouches for food and non-food flexible packaging create between 75 and 93 percent less greenhouse gas emissions compared to other packaging types.1

Additionally, with a 35-to-1 product-to-package ratio, stand-up pouches provide the most efficient package delivery system available, relative to other popular package types.2 CHEER PACK pouches also provide significant carbon footprint savings versus other material packaging types, relative to the most-preferred sustainability metric, which is source reduction.3

Additional key statistics comparing flexible packaging to other packaging types:

Flexible packaging comprises only 3.2 percent of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the U.S., compared to all packaging which comprises 30 percent of MSW. Notably, food waste is 22% of the MSW total.4

It takes 26 truckloads of unfilled glass jars to transport an equal number of units using 1 truckload of unfilled flexible pouches.5

Flexible spouted pouches offer a significantly-reduced carbon footprint in comparison to alternative packaging materials. Cheer Pack N.A. conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study through an independent third party to quantify those carbon footprint savings.6

“Cheer Pack North America continues to work on initiatives to offer an improved end-of-life solution for the pouch-based packaging that we manufacture. A key aspect of this effort is that we are actively working on a longer-term goal to offer a recyclable spouted pouch and cap,” said Cheer Pack N.A. President Steve Gosling. “Another facet of our commitment includes the extensive use of solar power in our manufacturing process.”

At Cheer Pack N.A.’s manufacturing facility in West Bridgewater, MA, the company uses energy that is produced by more than 144,000 square feet of solar panels that generate 2.4 million Kilowatt hours of electricity per year. These solar panels deliver more than 30 percent of the company’s annual electrical needs while simultaneously eliminating 1,655 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, the company’s automated lighting system saves over 225,000 Kilowatt hours of electricity and eliminates 159 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Overall, the amount of carbon dioxide that is eliminated by these practices equates to removing over 1,900 cars from the road per year.
