With many landfills using C&D fines for alternate daily cover, or accepting larger quantities of C&D (construction and demolition) waste, H2S has become a major problem. The processes detailed in this paper are commercially proven and have been used in landfills, along with many other industries, for 28-plus years. Iron-redox systems provide the lowest operating costs and are now operating in three landfills in the United States, with more in the planning stages.
