Wisconsin Air Quality Improvement Project Produces Cleaner Energy

Stanley Consultants and Alberici Constructors engineer, procure, and construction air quality improvement project at Alliant’s Edgewater Generating Station

MUSCATINE, IOWA (PRWEB) - Wisconsin residents will benefit from cleaner energy with the completion of an air quality improvement project at the Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan, Wis. Environmental technology has been installed at the facility that will reduce sulfur dioxide by approximately 90 percent.

As a joint venture team, Stanley Consultants provided design services for the air quality control system and Alberici Constructors constructed the $250 million project. The station is owned and operated by Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin utility, Wisconsin Power and Light Company.

Today, a ribbon cutting was held to mark the end of construction and official start-up for a baghouse and scrubber system that was added to Edgewater Unit 5. Employees, project contractors, labor leaders, and state and local officials gathered to celebrate the event.

“This air quality improvement project furthers our transition to providing cleaner and more efficient energy to our customers,” said John Larsen, President of Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin utility. “We are working to ensure that Wisconsin has the energy it needs to grow while minimizing our impact on the environment. The strong partnership we had with labor, our contractors and the community was impressive and made this a quality and environmentally responsible project.”

Stanley Consultants and Alberici Constructors teamed on the engineer, procure, construct (EPC) contract to install a dual train dry flue gas desulphurization system. The project also included engineering, procurement and construction of balance of plant equipment and continuous emissions monitoring technology at the generating station. The project employed nearly 300 workers during installation.
