The Greenspan Wastewater Monitor provides waste treatment plant operators and water quality managers with a compact
The Greenspan Wastewater Monitor provides waste treatment plant operators and water quality managers with a compact on-line system that, according to the manufacturer, is capable of performing a wide range of chemical and physical analyses with a level of performance equivalent to certified laboratory analyses.

State-of-the-art patented technology for continuous testing of effluent quality does away with traditional grab sample testing with its 2 to 5 day delay and delivers calibrated results in less than 10 minutes. Validation of results by on-board reference standards delivers unmatched levels of confidence in the results.

Primary measurement is by flow injection analysis in which a known quantity of sample is mixed with known quantities of chemicals. Digestion breaks down nitrogen and phosphorus compounds into simpler molecules whose concentrations can be measured colorimetrically. For other parameters ion selective electrodes immersed in the solution convert concentrations directly into electrical signals. Some additional benefits include:

•Better understanding of treatment plant operations
•Real time results allow quick action should effluent quality vary outside prescribed or regulatory limits
•Process control applications can provide consistent plant operation and yield cost savings in chemicals added to reduce phosphorus levels
•Standard solutions are introduced and measured at specific intervals to ensure continuing accuracy of measured results
•System versatility is enhanced by software which enables users to preset and vary monitoring intervals, trigger levels and alarm functions
•Users automatically obtain data on effluent quality during significant events, even when the waste treatment plant is unattended
•Reduces need for samples to be sent for laboratory analysis
