Vancouver, BC Startup Lays Out Green Freight Vision For G7 Summit

In partnership with Climate Change: The New Economy, Vancouver's Freightera offers bold new plan at G7 Summit to achieve zero emissions from freight transportation by 2030.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) - Freightera, North America's online freight marketplace, has just released "A Green Future for Freight" in the 2016 G7 Summit issue of Climate Change: The New Economy. Featured with visionary statements from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, American President Barack Obama, IMF Managing Director Christine LaGarde, and other government and industry leaders, Freightera founder and CEO Eric Beckwitt summarized the immediate quick wins that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution from freight shipping over 60%, and the longer-term technologies and policies that can provide zero and near zero emission freight transport globally.

The green freight vision, symbolically developed in the world's "Green Capital" Vancouver, is now being distributed to the G7, leading UN agencies, NGOs, senior policymakers, chief scientists and CEOs of the Fortune 500.

According to Freightera's Eric Beckwitt: "Global freight transport currently produces 10% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, up to half of the toxic diesel particulate matter (PM) emissions and 45% of nitrous oxides (NOx). Heavy trucks emit 57% of all logistics related GHG. Unfortunately, without changing policy and technology, emissions from freight transport are predicted to increase 290% by 2050."

While COP21 made great progress on overall emissions reduction agreements, Eric Beckwitt notes, freight and air travel were not covered, but industry can quickly reduce emissions: "Near term, rapid implementation of existing low and zero emission technologies can reduce GHG by 50-80%, and NOx, sulphur oxides (SOx) and PM by over 90% in select transportation modes. Longer term near zero emission technologies for trucks, locomotives and ocean-going vessels—and anticipated advances in low emission aircraft engines—allow us to plan a green future with emissions reductions of over 90%."

The Freightera platform is designed to fill available less-than-truckload capacity on scheduled trucks and entire trucks returning empty. By shifting long-haul freight from trucks to rail, Freightera can cut emissions 65% immediately. Freightera already provides rail service for many long-haul routes, while at the same time developing its own Link2Rail program that will allow all trucking companies to connect to rail for long haul, cross-country and cross-border shipments.

"We want to reach out, hear from and collaborate with forward thinking members of the freight transportation community worldwide, both shippers and carriers, that can work with us to reduce emissions and air pollution immediately," Beckwitt says.
