The model A15/79 monitor measures total residual chlorine using a gas phase measurement method that helps eliminate any contact between the sample and the sensor. In operation, sample is reacted with buffer and potassium iodide in accordance with EPA recommended methods. Iodine released by residual chlorine in the sample is stripped from the sample using an air-stripping column and the iodine is measured using a gas sensor. The result is a system that is easy to operate and immune to the sample fouling problems so common in wastewater measurement applications.

The monitor provides a variety of standard features including digital display of chlorine concentration, isolated 4-20mA output, and programmable alarm relays. Electronics for the system are housed in a separate enclosure from the chemistry system, and the packaging of both components is suitable for operation in most wastewater plant environments.
