In 1994, US automakers issued a new, cooperative set of quality standards for their suppliers: QS-9000. The new standards, though based on ISO 9000, are specific to the auto industry and are more rigorous in their demands. QS-9000 registrars must be accredited by an organization recognized by the US automakers. NSF-ISR is accredited by both ANSI/RAB and the highly regarded Dutch Council for Accreditation, RvA.
For more than 55 years, NSF International has worked to provide third party services of the highest level to companies and other organizations around the world. Unlike many registrars who operate as subsets of larger and more diverse organizations, all of NSF and NSF-ISR's energies are focused on performing standardization, auditing and assessment services. Today, over 3,000 organizations use the third-party services of NSF International and NSF-ISR.
