NAIMA Canada Supports Ontario's Investment In New Home Energy & Retrofit Program

Ottawa, Ontario (Marketwired) - NAIMA Canada applauds the Government of Ontario's commitment to helping homeowners fight climate change and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the introduction of a $100 million investment in a home energy audit and retrofit program, coming from the Ontario Green Investment Fund.

As an association representing insulation manufacturers, NAIMA Canada promotes energy efficiency and environmental preservation through the use of insulation products.

The announcement, jointly delivered today by Deputy Premier Deb Matthews and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Glen Murray in Toronto, and by Minister of Energy Bob Chiarelli in Ottawa, is said to be a critical piece in achieving the goal of net-zero buildings across the province and advancing Ontario's Climate Change Strategy objectives.

"This allocation of the Ontario Green Investment Fund will be integral to improving the environmental health and sustainability of Ontario," said Jay Nordenstrom, Executive Director of NAIMA Canada. "As a defining issue for our generation, tackling climate change with tangible investments and achievable goals is something the entire industry welcomes and applauds."

In Ontario, both residential and commercial buildings account for 19 per cent of total GHG emissions. This represents the third-largest source of emissions in the province. To reduce these emissions in any significant way, requires renovations and retrofits to the building envelope, insulation and heat load-all of which can be costly and discouraging to consumers.

"This investment will now empower Ontarians to make their homes more energy efficient, reduce their carbon footprint, and increase overall property value. We have a win-win scenario, where Ontarians can see lower energy bills and everyone benefits from reduced GHG emissions," said Nordenstrom.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the $100 million dollar program will stimulate job creation in Ontario's residential renovation sector. Insulation manufacturers, energy auditors, contractors and more will experience growth in their industry and growth for Ontario's economy.

"NAIMA Canada is excited at the opportunity that this program provides for its member companies and for the prosperity of the province of Ontario. When we have programs like this, Ontarians are in a better position to conserve more, and to be better global citizens."
