EMCON/OWT, Inc.'s Environmental Drilling Division focuses exclusively on landfill drilling. We have the equipment, personnel and know-how to complete landfill gas/leachate drilling projects in even the most difficult conditions.

We offer track-mounted rigs, and have the equipment and resources to complete more than 100 projects a year. We also offer KLEENWELL®, a proprietary well optimization process that offers significant cost savings compared to re-drilling LFG wells.

KLEENWELL®: For the Landfill Gas Industry

The Kleenwell Advantage

  • Do you need to increase methane (CH4) production from existing landfill gas (LFG) wells?
  • Would you like to increase your Section 29 tax credits?
  • Do you need an overall increase in LFG to maximize your operations?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may need KLEENWELL, a well optimization process offered by EMCON/OWT, Inc., a Shaw Group Company. KLEENWELL offers these benefits:

  • Guaranteed landfill gas well improvement
  • Cost savings compared to re-drilling LFG wells
  • Less intrusive than replacement or redrilling
  • Increased LFG flow from wells filled with leachate.

How Does KLEENWELL Work?

KLEENWELL is a proprietary procedure used to breakdown and remove silt, fines and sludges in landfill gas wells. Specially designed equipment forces silts and fines up and out of the well, beginning at the top of the well perforations and systematically continuing to the bottom of the well casing. As the well slots and perforations are opened, and the gravel pack is renewed, gas flows increase.

Results

At one site, the KLEENWELL process was performed on two 60' wells with 30' of perforations. Both wells were watered out and approximately 15' of silt was present in the bottom of each well casing. No gas was being extracted from the wells. After KLEENWELL was performed, LFG flow from each of these wells increased to 100 cfm. During the next 90-day period the gas flow stabilized to an average of 30 to 40 cfm per well, where it has remained.

What Does This Service Cost?

The KLEENWELL service can be provided using an "at risk" contract approach where our client only pays a predetermined fee over a set period of time for the increased flow of LFG. Alternatively, we can develop a contract in which our client is billed a one time fee for each well serviced. (A minimum of five wells is required.) Compare this with the potential increase in Section 29 tax benefits – a minimal increase in flow of 25 cfm will add $1,800 per quarter to your Section 29 tax benefits. The KLEENWELL service is also far less intrusive to your daily operations than replacement or re-drilling of silted-in wells. It is also considerably less expensive than installing new wells.
