CDTi Receives Expanded CARB Verification For Key Emission Control System

Ventura, CA (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:CDTI) ("CDTi"), a cleantech emissions control company, is pleased to announce that it has received an expanded verification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for its innovative ECS-branded Purifilter® Plus M diesel particulate filter (DPF) emission reduction system. Purifilter® Plus M features CDTi's proprietary MPC® catalyst technology, which is produced at its Oxnard, California facility. Purifilter® Plus M is the only hybrid DPF system employing both passive and active regeneration that CARB and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have verified for use in their engine retrofit programs.

Purifilter® Plus M combines the benefits of self-regenerating DPF technology with electrical elements that periodically perform active regeneration - ensuring consistent filtration efficiency and equipment uptime. This combination of passive and active regeneration greatly reduces the maintenance requirements when compared to traditional passive DPF solutions.

The expanded verification of Purifilter® Plus M enables CDTi to retrofit an important segment of the California fleets previously not available. The verification includes key 1994 to 2010 on-road Class 7 and Class 8 heavy duty diesel vehicles equipped with and without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) engines which are subject to mandatory retrofit requirements. These vehicles may include school, shuttle and urban buses; municipal, state and utility fleet vehicles; refuse trucks; and urban delivery vehicles, all of which are candidates for the current CARB Truck and Bus Regulation — a mandatory program established to meet federally imposed clean air standards and to reduce the adverse health effects from truck and bus pollution.

CDTi offers the largest combined portfolio of EPA- and CARB-verified diesel retrofit solutions, with additional products currently in the evaluation process. CDTi believes that with the anticipated receipt of additional verifications, its extensive retrofit experience and large distributor network it will be well positioned to address market opportunities, including the current California opportunity.
