Bullfrog Power® Supports Proposed Saskatoon Community Wind Project To Provide Clean Wind Power For 16,000 Saskatoon Residents
Proposed green power initiative now seeking community participation and support
Saskatoon, SK Canada (Marketwired) - Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, and Saskatoon Community Wind Energy, a community initiative with plans to develop wind generation near Saskatoon, are announcing a new partnership to increase the amount of clean, renewable electricity generation.
The project aims to construct a wind farm with ten wind turbines that would generate electricity for 16,000 Saskatoon residents. By developing unsubsidized, renewable electricity generation, Saskatoon Community Wind's proposed wind farm would displace thermally generated electricity and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"Over the last year we have achieved an enormous amount with very limited funds. Bullfrog's support comes at a critical time in the development phrase and will strengthen our ongoing operations," said James Glennie, President of Saskatoon Community Wind. "For months we have been speaking about the enormous economic, social and environmental benefits of what we are proposing. With its experience advancing renewable power in Canada, Bullfrog's contribution of significant financial and reputational support is a testament to this project's potential."
The site, which has yet to be confirmed, will be located within 15 to 30 kilometres of Saskatoon where there are greater wind resources than within the city limits. Bullfrog Power is supporting the project through its Bullfrog Builds Renewable Accelerator program, which provides financing to help in the construction and development phases of new projects. Bullfrog is supporting the early stage project development phase of Saskatoon Community Wind's initiative as the project's founding development sponsor.
"Bullfrog is excited to be working with Saskatoon Community Wind to help move this important renewable energy project forward," said Ron Seftel, Senior Vice President, Operations, Bullfrog Power. "Through the Bullfrog Builds program, Bullfrog is working with community-based organizations across Canada and providing financial support for the early phases of their projects."
Saskatoon Community Wind is holding a public meeting to provide more information on the project and to encourage community participation and support.

About Saskatoon Community Wind
We are a Saskatoon community initiative. For the last year a large number of us have been investigating the potential for a substantial wind farm that would be developed and owned by Saskatoon citizens. It would consist of 10 large wind turbines located 15 to 30 kilometres outside of Saskatoon. Those turbines would generate enough clean, green, emission-free and unsubsidized electricity to meet the needs of 16,000 Saskatoon citizens.
We will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday 12th September at the Farmers' Market to discuss this idea and consider next steps. All are welcome and details are on our web site at www.saskatooncommunitywind.ca. Check out our Twitter and Facebook page.
