Traditional direct reading mass instruments have used light scatter to measure a cloud of particles. The GT-331 uses light scatter to measures individual particles instead of clouds, the particle information is then grouped into size ranges and converted to mass concentration.

Operation
Pushing the START key starts a four minute cycle, then using SELECT key the concentration in each of the four size ranges may be displayed.

Computer Control Software is supplied to enable the user to operate the unit by computer control, in this mode the samples may be automatically started and the results logged. The software is also supplied with mass density correction factors, K factors, that may be applied for any size range or for the entire size range.

Inside the GT-331 In operation, the air is drawn through a small optical orifice and a 90° right angle laser optical system counts and sizes individual particles as they pass through. The pulses from the detector are stored in one of four memory banks and then converted into mass. The flow rate is 2.83 Ipm which makes it ideal for low to high concentrations of airborne particulate.
