WI Environmental Offers Clean Air Solution For Smokestacks

Seattle, WA - WI Environmental, a company dedicated to environmental solutions, announced a new technology solution that is poised to revolutionize the way private industry and governments treat smokestack emissions. Announced at the US Department of Commerce P2E2 International Conference in Hong Kong, WI Environmental's new technology solution can eliminate the release of global climate changing carbon dioxide (CO2) gases as well as heavy metals, small particles, and NOx and SOx contamination into the atmosphere. This new technology offers a much needed solution to cleaning up emissions from the smokestacks of coal and diesel-fired power plants and other smokestack and exhaust emitting devices worldwide including the shipping industry.

"We at WI Environmental have been striving for years to create technologies and products that could radically clean up the emissions that are polluting our air, water and soil," said Timothy D. Wandell, President of WI Environmental. "After multiple successful tests we are confident we can produce zero emission coal fired generation facilities and treat all contaminants."

It has been widely acknowledged that carbon dioxide (CO2) production is a leading contributor to global climate change and that significant changes need to be made in the production of CO2 from coal-fired power, cement and other industrial plants. Recognizing this need, WI Environmental has engineered the Clean Smokestack Solution (CSS) by combining two worldwide patented, trademarked, tested and applied technologies that used together yield unprecedented results.

The two technologies are Wandell Industries, Inc.'s patented Air System Technology (AST) Solution and WI Environmental, LLC's XR-88. Together they remove carbon dioxide (CO2) as well as heavy metals, small particles (ash not trapped by the electrostatic precipitators), and NOx and SOx contamination found in the emitted flue gases. As an added benefit, the sludge resulting from this technology can be used for building materials and nitrogen compounds from the NOx removal can be extracted from the resulting FGD gypsum for use as fertilizer.

By combining the AST Solution and XR-88 , WI Environmental's solutions convert what some refer to as a dirty technology into a clean technology without spending the money to pre-treat the coal. Existing coal-fired power plants can be modified in an economical fashion that will reduce or completely eliminate emissions that are harmful to humans, animals or the environment.

The AST Solution Component
The AST Solution is a state-of-the-art advanced air purification technology that is employed in systems without requiring the use of solid filters. The AST Solution applies a patented aqueous filtering system with a combination, as needed, of electrostatic filtering, UV sterilization, germicidal sterilization and additional features to capture and eliminate the following contaminants: carbon dioxide (CO2), particulates, smoke, bacteria and viruses, mold and mildew, pet dander, pollen and grasses, odors, chemical vapors, other allergens, and oil mists.

Using a proprietary water-based solution, the AST Solution literally washes the contaminants out of the air without solution leakage and unwanted humidification. The AST Solution does not re-circulate contaminants like many other systems on the market today. The AST Solution can be scaled from small household portable or fixed systems, to retrofitted systems to new or existing HVAC systems, to large multi-stage systems for industrial purposes including any exhaust emitting device. An advantage of the AST Solution is that there are no expensive and sometimes messy filters to change or clean. Reports have shown that filters may plug with time hindering airflow efficiency, spread contamination when removed and, in some cases, act as the breeding grounds for bacteria and mold. The AST Solution simply requires refilling the storage tank with a proprietary water system every few weeks. In most areas, old formula in the tanks will be safe for discharge into a sanitary sewage system.

The XR-88 Component
XR-88 is a WI Environmental propriety product that stabilizes and renders benign a wide variety of metals (such as uranium, copper, hexavalent chromium, nickel, zinc, lead, arsenic and many others) that are found in industrial waste, acid mine drainage and nuclear power plant radioactive wastewaters. XR-88 effectively and efficiently neutralizes heavy metals contaminants found in water, soil, and sludge. XR-88 has been extensively tested in the United States and China. Wastes treated with XR-88 passed every test, including the US Environmental Protection Agency Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (US EPA TCLP) test for leachability of trapped metals in the remaining sludge, thus yielding a non-hazardous waste. For example, after treatment with XR-88 electroplating liquids that had been contaminated with metals showed no detectable levels of the metals and the resulting sludge, which contained the stabilized metals from the liquid pass, the leachability tests in the USA and China.

Independent Laboratory Tests
In recent engineering evaluation tests conducted by an EPA Certified Laboratory, AmTest Air Quality, WI Environmental demonstrated that Wandell Industries' patented water wash technology for air purification (Air System Technology (AST) Solution) and in the testing, WI Environmental's XR-88 slurry removed over 90% of the CO2 in the test vessel. The CO2 removal is accomplished at the same time that heavy metals, small particles, NOx and SOx are removed. A major advantage to removing CO2 with XR-88 is that it chemically reacts with the CO2 to form a chalk-like material with a high silica content that can be filter pressed and used for beneficial uses. Carbon sequestering of CO2 is obtained by chemically binding the CO2 in a material that will not dissolve in water or release CO2 with time. This eliminates the need to sequester pure CO2.
