Diversifying To Maintain Momentum In A Difficult Economy
April 30, 2009
Controlled Environment Equipment, an environmental engineering company located in Milwaukee, WI, was coming off of two very successful years providing environmental control systems to its' customers when the economy wilted at the end of last year putting serious restrictions on capital expenditures. CEE, as did many companies in the industry, saw many projects halted or delayed.
However, with over 30 years of experience, CEE management had experienced similar conditions before and adapted to the current situation by providing an alternative solution to end users utilizing refurbished equipment as a method for controlling costs while still addressing environmental emission challenges.
Historically, Controlled Environment has provided ADWEST regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTO) at the heart of its' design recommendations because of their superior operating characteristics. Whenever possible, CEE continues to do so when recommending ‘used' equipment. At this time, CEE has two refurbished ADWEST RTOs in inventory – a 5000cfm unit and a 7500cfm unit. These units have been fully reconditioned to meet original manufacturer's specifications to achieve 98% destruction efficiency and include a one-year (parts and labor) warranty. /p>
In an effort to further diversify their business model, Controlled Environment is aggressively seeking out heat recovery opportunities which can make effective use of heat-transfer technology as a method for achieving ‘green' energy solutions. This type of application typically requires a lesser investment in capital to achieve significant reduction in energy costs and an attractive ROI. It is expected that many of these projects will now become more cost-effective because of the funding available for energy conservation as part of the 2009 Federal Stimulus package.
Looking to implement the latest in energy recovery technology, CEE is ‘partnering' with a new company (Green Earth, inc.) to explore the cost-effective application of converting industrial waste heat to electrical power applying the Organic Rankin Cycle (ORC) design to provide an alternative to traditional energy sources.
