Eco Power Solutions Technology Provides Shortest Glide Path For Utilities To Meet Recently Announced EPA Power Plant Emissions Standards

COMPLY 2000(TM) multi-pollutant reduction solution can be installed in 18-30 months at lower capital and fixed operating costs

Boston, MA /PRNewswire / -- Eco Power Solutions' multi-pollutant emission control technology, the COMPLY 2000(TM), delivers the quickest, most cost-effective solution for utilities to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) final Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule published on December 21, 2011, and is included in a list of innovative technologies eligible for Commercial Demonstration Permits included in the MATS ruling.

MATS requires that within three years, power plants reduce emissions of heavy metals, including mercury, arsenic, chromium and nickel; and acid gases, including hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. The COMPLY 2000(TM) provides an all-in-one solution to reduce emissions of mercury, arsenic, chromium, nickel, other heavy metals and acid gases by more than 95 percent. The Eco Power Solutions Technology Center in Louisville, Kentucky, has documented that the COMPLY 2000(TM) reduces NOx and SOx emissions by 98 percent. The Technology Center has been operating an integrated COMPLY 2000(TM) system since June 2010.

With three years to meet these new standards, the COMPLY 2000(TM) is the quickest solution available on the market to reduce power plant emissions. The modular design of the COMPLY 2000(TM) systems means it can be installed in less time than traditional emissions control technologies at a cost of 25 percent less than competing technologies.

"Eco Power Solutions understands that utilities need to comply with the recently announced EPA standards in a way that doesn't impact their ability to deliver cost-competitive, reliable electricity to their customers," said Tom Bartolomei, CEO of Eco Power Solutions. "Based on the operating data from our Technology Center, we know that the COMPLY 2000 can deliver what utilities need in a proven, cost effective, all-in-one solution and on a very appealing schedule."

"The COMPLY 2000 provides power generators with an all-in-one solution that can be installed more rapidly and with lower capital investment than its competitors," said Konkana Khaund, Industry Manager - North America, Environment & Building Technologies, Frost & Sullivan. "Ratepayers will benefit from utilities that take advantage of the COMPLY 2000's quicker installation timeframe, which provides a shorter glide path to incorporate compliance costs into their rate structures. It is a cost-effective way to continue operating current electric generating units while meeting the newly instituted EPA standards well ahead of the 2015 deadlines."

About the COMPLY 2000(TM) Technology (hi-res image available from Eco Power Solutions)

The COMPLY 2000(TM) is a multi-pollutant emission control technology designed to remove greater than 95 percent of emissions, such as NOx, SOx, unburned hydrocarbons (UHC), small particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and heavy metals. Unlike current methods that reduce each of these emissions individually, the COMPLY 2000(TM) is a modular, all-in-one solution that eliminates virtually all of these emissions from flue gasses concurrently, therefore, controlling costs.

To achieve the unprecedented multi-pollutant removal levels announced today, the COMPLY 2000(TM) uses an ozone injection process for NOx conversion. A fogging spray is mixed with a hydrogen peroxide solution for SOx conversion that is condensed concurrently with other pollutants to remove all combustion emissions from the exhaust gas stream. This process converts NOx and SOx to nitric and sulfuric acid in the wastewater stream collected at the bottom of the COMPLY 2000(TM) unit. Simultaneously, unburned hydrocarbons and remaining particulate matter is removed during the condensation phase along with carbonic acid resulting from dissolved CO2. This wastewater can then be treated and recycled.
