ETI Featured In California Pollution-Busting Showcase

January 7, 2008

Phoenix, AZ - Emissions Technology, Inc. (ETI), a diesel emissions technology company, has been granted a coveted position to participate in the California Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) Showcase. The Showcase is designed to expand the number of California-approved emissions control devices that can be used on heavy construction, off-road diesel equipment. ETI is one of 16 companies worldwide that will participate in the Showcase and the only company that utilizes a pre-combustion technology to reduce harmful, pollution-causing emissions.

To be eligible for the Showcase, each diesel emissions control technology is expected to achieve particulate matter (PM) reductions of at least 85 percent and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) reductions of 25 percent. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PM and NOx are considered to be serious health risks and are leading contributors to the formation of acid rain and global warming. The Showcase is expected to last six months, at which time, each product will be evaluated with regard to its performance in the field.

ETI will be showcasing its Combustion Catalyst System (CCS) in combination with the Particulate Reactor from Environmental Solutions Worldwide (ESW), Inc. The CCS is the size of a large cereal box and is installed under the hood, near the diesel engine's turbocharger. The technology makes the engine combustion cleaner and more efficient by injecting a platinum-based catalyst into the combustion chamber. The concept is the same as taking a catalytic converter, and installing it on the front end of the combustion cycle, rather than on the exhaust. Because the CCS is a pre-combustion solution, not only does it significantly reduce harmful emissions, but also decreases fuel consumption.

While ETI secured its position within the Showcase based on the performance of its CCS technology, the Company has decided to strategically partner with Canadian-based ESW. ESW currently manufacturers a post-combustion, CARB Level II-certified emissions control product that is the world's first to reduce PM by a minimum of 50 percent.

"By combining ETI's pre-combustion technology with ESW's post-combustion technology, we create the highest performance and most cost-effective emissions control solution on the market," says Troy Bohlke, President of ETI.

David J. Johnson, ESW's President and CEO commented, "The combined system has shown in past demonstrations to deliver excellent results on older, predominantly used, heavy construction equipment, and we look forward to future opportunities to demonstrate the synergy of these technologies and our two companies."

The MSRC released over $3.6M in Clean Transportation Funding to showcase cleaner construction equipment technology to help owners of large diesel fleets comply with the new California Air Resources Board (ARB) regulations for off-road, diesel construction equipment. In addition, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) is planning to add $1.2M to the program, bringing the total to $4.88M.

California has over 200,000 vehicles that are required to be retro-fitted by 2015 in order to be in compliance with the new emissions laws. These vehicles include bull dozers, paving equipment, off-highway trucks, scrapers, backhoe loaders, compactors, graders, skidders and excavators. However, by enacting these new laws, companies that operate older, non-compliant diesel-powered equipment will need to find ways to quickly, but economically become compliant. Unfortunately, their choices are limited to either purchasing entirely new equipment which is cost prohibitive, or finding less expensive, aftermarket solutions.

"California is a battleground state for the rest of the union," says John Dunlap, former CARB chairman.
"Companies that perform well in the Showcase have the opportunity to reap the benefits of the twenty-two other states that are poised to pass similar California pollution laws in the next 24 months."

RECAT, a California-based retrofit company for Caterpillar off-road diesel equipment and a distributor of ETI and ESW products will be responsible for installing and monitoring six ETI CCS units and six ESW Particulate Reactors on various types of heavy equipment during the Showcase. RECAT's technicians have a combined 150 years of experience reconditioning Caterpillar equipment. RECAT's Clean Air Division develops practical, durable emissions' solutions for diesel off-road equipment.

According to Michael Avery, Director of RECAT's Clean Air Division, "The Showcase will clearly demonstrate that the ETI/ESW solution will not only significantly reduce harmful emissions, but also decrease fuel consumption. After 500 installations, our customers are not only significantly reducing emissions, but also are saving fuel."
