Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces Opacity And Dust Monitor With Optical Surface Contamination Checking
Franklin, MA Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, announces the availability of the Model 445, an opacity and dust concentration monitor with built-in test functions that include automatic four-point linearity and optical surface contamination checks. Joining Thermo Fisher Scientific's family of stack gas monitoring instrumentation, the Model 445 measures the mass concentration of dust in stack effluents from power plants, cement and steel plants, and other industrial sites that require a continuous emission monitoring system. The Model 445 meets all U.S. EPA PS1 and ASTM 6216-98 requirements.
The Thermo Scientific Model 445 provides freely selectable measuring ranges for transmission, opacity, relative opacity (U.S. EPA), extinction or optical density, and dust concentration after gravimetric comparison, and allows safe planning as the ranges can be changed at the customer's site. The Model 445 also has a range of contamination correction that can be up to 50 percent of light attenuation resulting in longer free maintenance intervals.
The optical and electronic elements used in the Thermo Scientific brand monitoring system are contained within the sender/receiver unit. A durable pulsed LED serves as the light source and an integral sighting device eases alignment of the sender/receiver and the reflector units. To protect the optical surfaces from dust and high temperature, the sender/receiver and reflector are purged with clean plant air. The connection unit contains the display, operating elements and all connections. Options include an RCU-MS remote control unit and remote diagnostics via modem.
"The Thermo Scientific opacity and dust monitor is yet another addition to our stack gas monitoring portfolio that makes things easier and more cost-effective for the customer," said Michael Nemergut, marketing director for Thermo Fisher Scientific's Air Quality Instruments business. "Like our other monitoring systems, the 445 shares a simplicity of design for a completely integrated, automatic solution to emissions monitoring."
