Doing something better than someone else is what gives you a competitive advantage. There's no surprise in that concept. But how you choose to get there and stay there is what drives business.
Old equipment vs. new equipment, improved efficiencies coupled with reduced operating costs are key process drivers in any business plan. An area in coil manufacturing where business owners seek a balance between these drivers is environmental compliance.
For First American Resources Company, Mableton, Ga., its mission is to manufacture the highest-quality aluminum and steel pre-coated coils for the building and automotive industries. Its products are used to make automobile window and door seals, engine head gaskets, residential windows and housing exterior trim. Its coatings are all solvent based and include various adhesives, polyesters and poly vinyl chloride (PVC) paints. The company runs two coating lines, one for wide metal strips and one for precision stripe coating of very narrow metal strips. Both lines can coat single- or double-sided and are capable of applying the primer and finish coat in a single pass through the line.
